The RAV4 doesn’t have the looks to pull off the bronze wheels. Just looks awkward. Then the bigger disappointment comes once you get inside the vehicle and experience the outdated and low quality interior. CX-50 in a big way!
I am a owner of a CX50 and i have to say the TURBO is well worth the money and then some, it makes this CUV fun to drive, the steering weight you guys talked about was revised on the 2024 CX50 built as of Nov 2023, The steering and ride feel of the CX50 is firm and responsive you get great feedback when driving it. The price you pay with this CUV is gas milage it is just ok my 2017 Tucson 1.6 Turbo was way better when it came to gas consumption. This is a beautiful CUV, TECH is great.....
Mazda has nailed it with the 2024 CX50 , in my opinion go for the turbo version, the drive quality is excellent and one can feel the power of turbo kick in when in the mode the drive quality is excellent adn the vehicle sticks to the road ruggedly even on banks, cx50 interiors are as premium as a lexus or a RDX and overall its a fantastic classy and very MANLY vehicle .. total thumbsup👍
When you own a Mazda the rotary dial is super easy Learn to integrate the steering wheel controls with it and you never have to take your eyes off the road
I chose the Mazda CX-50 because of the reliability. The non turbo engine and the torque converter transmissions - both well tested over the last 10 years are bullet proof. Of course, the Toyota is also very very reliable but almost impossible to get as there is about a two year waiting list.
That was generally true over the last 5 years but because Mazda has introduced several new models recently they fell behind Toyota in 2024. (Consumer Reports) most reliable ranking. The Cx90 drug the ranking down but Toyota will like suffer too in 2025 because they've had several recalls on the Tacoma and the Grand Highlander which are both out of production now until they fix the problems with them. Thats how bad that recall was.
Love Toyotas, have a 24 Camry, that being said the RAV4 felt like a completely efficient Appliance compared to the sports car feeling cx50 that my wife and I chose. Can't go wrong with either one!
💡 *main problem with the Toyota Rav4 hybrid is the extremely long wait times, and when the Toyota dealership has one in stock they are asking so much over MSRP*
Im a toyota fan, but I just bought a Mazda cx-50, I had owned a Mazda before and reliability is up there with Toyota for my experience, my buying experience was easier compared with toyota and their additional fees they were trying to add to the cost. They play hard to get.
We did compare them bought Mazda CX-50 love the look and drive train 2.5 ice with 6 speed transmission. Base model Select very nice interior great looking SUV.
The Mazda is exponentially more fun to drive. And their reliability seems to be on par. My wife just picked up a cx50 and it was a significantly better deal than the RAV4 while offering unreal differences in driving Dynamics.
So i lost both cars from the hurricanes here in FL and we now have a 2025 cx50 and a 2024 Rav.. I look for reasons to do errands to drive my Cx50, while roadtrips etc are for the Rav. They are both great in their own ways.
what would you say about possibility to steal rav4 during 2 minutes? Check other videos on youtube and you might be surprised probably the biggest issue since 2019 and for today about rav4.
Great video on the mazda cx50 turbo and the Toyota rav4 hybrid I would love to see a test between the acura rdx AWD A-spec lexus NX350 AWD F sports looking forward stay safe.
1500 lb for non hybrid. I don't understand how the non hybrid adventure more then doubles towing capacity with the same power train?????? Having larger transmission cooler wouldn't do that
I’ve owned all my life Toyotas because of solid reliability but for this…. I have to go Mazda I feel the RAV4 looks like an appliance and at the end of the day when I go out of the house I need to see something that pleases me… btw I own a Lexus RC350F sport AWD and I get more looks than a Porsche… also own an ES350 that’s my winter car because it is sooooo reliable and it’s hitting 400 Km 😁 and still runs smooth as butter
I'd pick the RAV4 anytime. My purpose is to save money, and I can only achieve that by having the RAV4 in terms of gas consumption, resale value, cost to own, reliability, and price. It's a runaway win for RAV4 for me.
So the savings with the hybrid are not that significant unless you are someone who drives a ton. I drive about 20 miles a day, if you’re one of those people who own a 2024 model car and have managed to rack up 65,000 miles on it then you would benefit from this
Great review, but you are comparing two different trim levels. I usually stop watching reviews when they do this, but I was curious about the comparison. If you did a RAV Limited the video would influence my buying decision. Being a Toyota owner this did not sway me to buy a Mazda.
I don’t have any rattles when the sunroof is closed. The few times that I do open it, sometimes when I hit bumps, I’ll get a little rattle that has not been able to be resolved so far.
Wait is that a common thing? I’ve loved my CX50 but the sunroof has been annoying. I brought it to Mazda a week ago to be fixed and it’s still there. 😒
The trouble with different trim and engine choices is you get caught comparing apples and oranges. For instance, the hybrid versus the turbo. In adventure trim, the Rav4 can tow 3,500 pounds, hybrid is 1,750, and the base engine is 1,500 pounds. Hopefully the next gen Rav4 is a worthy upgrade, this gen is a little tired. The biggest negative for me in the Rav4 are the seats, especially true if you don't get power passenger seat. Rav4 is for the masses, roomy enough so you don't have to get a bigger model. Rav4Hybrid is by far the better value, it's just an older design.
CX-50 has a hybrid coming in 2025 model year, they already have a CX-90 and CX-70 hybrid, plus I think they may have one in the Mazda 3. Plus rumour is the Mazda 6 is returning with a hybrid.
You can get 3,500 towing on the RAV4 Trail, MSRP is $41k. Better fuel economy day to day than the Turbo Mazda and you’re not forced to go to the GT model for $47k to get that towing.
It's 2024. Soon it will be 2025. But should we still drive such a car? Too little change and no innovation. There has been no improvement in parts, materials or structures in 10 years. Should we continue to drive cars that are so lazy in development and have not improved performance?
CX50 is gorgeous, but having a shit ton of cladding doesn’t mean it’s rugged and off roadworthy and infotainment system needs a massive upgrade/redesign. RAV interior is just garbage period.
Mazda is also just as or more reliable. It has the same powertrain as the CX5, which is known as best in class by several publications for 10 years now. On top of that the Xtra space in the Toyota is height. So practically speaking the Mazda has just as much interior space because very rarely is anyone packing up items to the ceiling in their SUV So much so that the CX50 wouldnt also work for them. Plus if you are towing items, 1500 extra lbs is substantial. Youre not throwing 1500 lbs of xtra weight in the rear of any car. Thats ridiculous😅 Whose loading the car, Captain Marvel?
That "extra space" in the RAV4 may be all in the top, BUT it may also be HEADROOM. I don't know yet, but I'll be finding out soon. I'm tall, so headroom matters.
No Zoom Zoom on the CX-50? boooo. boooooooo! There are only 2 trim levels of the CX-50 that I will consider, the "Standard" and the Preferred, i.e. the two LOWEST trim levels. Why? Because I will NOT buy a vehicle with a sun/moon roof. Toyota has a similar problem. The moon roof is NOT optional once you reach certain trim levels. I wish the car makers would stop loading these cars up with so much crap gadgetry and fluff.

Personally, I'd rather save the $7 Grand
